Increase in poaching incidents reported in Dorset

Police are asking us to look out for suspicious behaviour

Author: Faye Tryhorn

An increase in poaching incidents across Dorset in prompting police in the county to ask us to watch out for it.

Officers say poaching is a criminal offence - where people enter land and illegally catch and kill animals.

They're asking us, especially in rural locations, to keep an eye out for suspicious activity, and report it where possible.

If an incident's ongoing, we can call 999 - or 101 if evidence of past incidents have been found.

When calling police, we're asked to pass on:

  • The exact location of the incident – describing a local landmark or What3Words reference
  • A description of any people involved, including details of clothing, tools or dogs
  • The make, model, colour and registration of a vehicle that may be involved
  • If it is safe to do so, please also take photos which can be used as evidence
