A new 340 home estate is set to be built north of Weymouth, at Nottington.

Dorset Council's given full approval for the designs and layout of the scheme, after previously having outline permission for the principle of the development.

Land south of Nottington Lane will be built on, with builders C G Fry and Son taking on the project.

They were responsible for much of the construction for the Duchy of Cornwall estate at Poundbury.

Just over a third (35%) of these new houses, making up what's being called 'Wey Valley', will be affordable.

The initial planning application led to dozens of local objections, mainly with worries about additional traffic, the loss of a green space and fears of flooding.

Preparation and infrastructure work has already taken place on the site with the construction of the houses across the 16 hectare plot expected to be in phases, the initial buildings close to the Dorchester Road end of the site.

The plans also include several areas of open spaces, a woodland play area and a pond, as a method of dealing with excess water.
