14th century Dorset chapel damaged during attempted break-in

St Catherine's Chapel in Abbotsbury has been targeted

Damage has been caused to the door and lock at a 14th century Grade I listed chapel in Dorset during an attempted break-in.

Dorset Police tell us it happened at St Catherine's Chapel in Abbotsbury at some point on Saturday 24th September.

They're now treating the incident as a heritage crime and asking anyone with information to come forward.

PCSO Chris Mullens, of Dorset Police’s Rural Crime Team, said:

“We take reports of heritage crime very seriously and this incident has involved damage to a historic and much-loved building.

“We are carrying out enquiries into this matter and I would urge anyone with information that might assist our investigation to please come forward.”
