Today the Friends of Radipole Park and Gardens are holding a public consultation on the plans for the green space's improvements.

Plans are progressing well and the design team is now in place. All work needs to be openly tendered so detailed designs are being developed with a view to appointing main contractors early next year.

OVER ÂŁ1 MILLION AWARDED TO THE PROJECT

Weymouth Town Council was awarded ÂŁ1,013,400 (70% of total project cost of ÂŁ1,441,401) by The National Lottery Heritage Fund and The National Lottery Community Fund for improvements to Radipole Park and Gardens.

The project aims to encourage more people to use the facilities and reconnect with wildlife and nature through an exciting and engaging activity programme. There will also be plenty of opportunities for people to get involved through a variety of different volunteer and training placements.

The funding is being used to make improvements and changes to the site, including a new path network for visitors. Popular areas, such as the sports courts will be repaired and improved, with extra facilities added.

Plans also include exciting new features, such as the installation of a new heritage café, toilets, updated play area and a Sensory Garden.

Cllr Ryan Hope, Chair of the Services Committee, said:

“There are a lot of details to work through and we will be holding a public consultation event in the Park from 11am to 3pm on 24 August to share current plans and answer any questions on the project.

“We hope to begin work on site late Spring 2022 with a view to completing work by the end of the year. We are putting plans in place to ensure that regular updates on project progress and details of when works will happen are posted on the Weymouth Town Council website and social media, as they are confirmed.”
