Harbour dredging in West Bay and Lyme Regis
Dorset Council will start work in the next couple of weeks
The harbours at West Bay and Lyme Regis will have their annual dredging in the next few weeks.
Dorset Council's carrying out their yearly work, which they say is 'essential maintenance' and makes sure 'safe, navigable channels are maintained'.
The work will start at Lyme Regis on Tuesday 17th May and take around 10 days.
The team will then move on to West Bay on Monday 6th June, through until Friday 1st July.
No works will be carried out across the school half term holiday and the Queen's Platinum Jubilee Bank Holidays.
We're advised to keep a safe distance away from the machinery, especially at Lyme Regis where banksmen will be there to keep the public safer.
At West Bay, there's less disruption expected as only a small section of the beach will need to be closed.
There is also a warning that the work is weather dependent and poor conditions may mean some delays.
Cllr Ray Bryan, Portfolio Holder for Highways, Travel and Environment, said:
“Our harbours are a vital resource for Dorset’s residents and businesses - as well as a major attraction for visitors - so it’s important that they are well looked after. Dredging is a key part of our maintenance programme and these works will ensure our harbours remain safe and accessible for all who use them.”
