Gun licences priority for Dorset Police and Crime Commissioner
David Sidwick says it's vital 'we get it right' over gun licences in light of Plymouth mass shooting
Dorset's PCC says getting gun licence policy right is vital in light of Plymouth's mass shooting earlier this month.
Five people were killed in the attack on 12th August.
David Sidwick, PCC for Dorset, says the attack should make forces take a hard look at gun licensing.
He's been reflecting on his first 100 days in office, and looking ahead to the future.
He said:
"What this has thrown up is that we've got to look at the whole system and look at how it works and make certain that we get it right, and the link between the medical side of things, and the police side of things.
"Are we getting the right information at the right time?
"So we will be reviewing all that. In fact, there's three different reviews of that situation going on at this moment in time."
He's reassuring residents it's not a common occurrence.
Anti-social behaviour
The main theme of David's messages in his first 100 days has been surrounding Anti-Social Behaviour.
Anti-social behaviour is at the forefront of many people's minds as we return to normality, especially with the night time economy.
David says targeting these kinds of offenders can dissuade them from more serious crime:
"We have relatively few, for example, murders in Dorset so it anti-social behaviour is the most likely situation when people will come into contact with low level criminality.
"If you look at anti-social behaviour it can be a precursor to other things. You start getting a bit leery, you start doing a couple of things, you get away with it, you start doing things that are a little bit more risky.
"To me, it is also trying to shut the door a bit to more serious forms of criminality."
