Dorset Council have agreed to the application for a brand new coastguard look-out which will overlook the beach at Burton Bradstock.

The application was made by the National Coast watch Institution which requested a slightly larger building than the current look-out – and with a change in colour from white to green.

The existing building, alongside the Hive Café, was first given a two-year temporary planning consent in June 2010, which has since been extended several times.

In 2021 an application for a replacement hut was agreed, but has not been built. The latest application is broadly similar to that, approved, application but with some slight design changes and to the materials being proposed. As with the 2021 application solar panels will be put in place on the roof, if approved.

The walls of the new look-out will be covered with olive green composite cladding with the roof made of a grey membrane with solar panels. The hut and deck will be anchored to the ground using ground screws which can removed when the structure is no longer needed and the land reinstated.

Access will be as it is now – either via the beach or the main car park.
