Bands across the south west are performing in Weymouth tonight, all in aid of helping rough sleepers in Dorset.

Local charity music event, Gimme Shelter, is taking place today for the first time in two years.

The money made from tickets and donations, minus the running costs, will go towards local support agencies and charities that help homeless people across the county.

The event is being held in the Belvedere and starts at 2:30pm.

It is the first time the event has been held in two years because of Coronavirus but in total over the five years it has been running £7000 has been raised from it.

As well as music there will also be face-painting, raffles and food for sale.

Organiser and Musician Paul Sharod told Greatest Hits Radio Dorset that bands from Bristol and Bournemouth will be joining our local talent.

"We have also teamed up with the Veterans Hub, who are providing food. Money from that will go to the charity.

"All in all it's looking to be a positive event, especially after being wiped out by Covid-19 last year and it has been a struggle this year because a lot of bands have pulled out because of Covid.

"But bands will be starting at 2:30 on Saturday and then it will go on to about midnight with DJ's and all sorts, we just want to make some good money for the cause.

"The Belvedere have raised over £1000 already through local gigs and putting out buckets."
