Giant 50p carved at Sandworld Weymouth to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee
It took 3 weeks to make
A sculpture of a huge 50p coin has been carved in the sand at Sandworld in Weymouth to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.
It's been created by the attraction's co-founder David Hicks.
It took David 3 weeks to carve and the coin features the Queen on horse back from the 1977 Silver Jubilee.
In 2012 David created a sculpture of the Royal Crest at SandWorld to celebrate the Diamon Jubilee.
10 years on David wanted to celebrate the occasion once again. This time with a replica of the commemorative 50p coin which shows an image of The Queen on horseback, from the 1977 Silver jubilee Trooping the Colour.
A spokesperson for Sandworld in Weymouth said:
"The shape of the 50p coin is unique and the amount of lettering and detail has required a great deal of patience – taking David over 3 weeks to complete. We’re sure you will agree that the results are outstanding!
"We hope The Queen would approve – if she ever got to see it!
"In 2022, Her Majesty The Queen will become the first British Monarch to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee after 70 years of service. We feel incredibly lucky to have been led by such an inspirational woman and would like to take this opportunity to say thank you to Her Majesty The Queen for her service and dedication to our nation."
