Officers have made a further arrest as enquiries continue into offences linked to reported disorder at protest activity in Dorset.

A team of officers has been reviewing footage from recent protest activity in Weymouth on Sunday 4 August 2024 and in Bournemouth on Wednesday 7 August 2024 and building evidence to take action against those reported to be involved in criminal activity.

The latest arrest has seen a 43-year-old woman from Bournemouth being arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and common assault in connection with an incident during the protest activity in Bournemouth. She remains in police custody.

Assistant Chief Constable Mark Callaghan from Dorset Police said:

“We have been clear that while we will seek to facilitate safe and legal protest, we will not tolerate reports of criminal activity and public disorder.

“Our officers have been working tirelessly in recent days to keep the public safe and investigate any reported offences so those suspected of being involved are identified and dealt with robustly.”

A 38-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of violent disorder and assaulting an emergency worker in connection with a protest in Weymouth on Sunday 4 August appeared at Poole Magistrates’ Court on Friday 9 August 2024. He is next due to appear at Bournemouth Crown Court on Monday 12 August 2024.
