There will be free entry to Weymouth Museum throughout August and September 2021 for all Weymouth residents.

Sponsorship by Weymouth Town Council means those living in the DT3 and DT4 areas don't have to pay.

All those living there have to do is bring their proof of address to show on arrival.

The grant is to celebrate the Museum, found in Hope Square, turning 50-years-old this year.

Dan Weiss from the Museum told Greatest Hits Radio Dorset:

"This is an initiative we have been keen to champion as our local heritage and history is so important to all staff and volunteers at the museum; we want to share our passion for Weymouth and Melcombe Regis with as many people as possible."

WHAT ARE YOUR WEYMOUTH MEMORIES?

To celebrate the 450th anniversary of Weymouth and Melcombe Regis, Weymouth Museum have undertaken a ‘Living Histories Project’ to hear people’s stories and record their memories about the area.

The Museum, have been inviting people with a connection to Weymouth and Melcombe Regis to bring in their mementos and items of interest to be added to the Museum’s collection of recent local history.

They are scanning photos, photographing the artefacts and recording memories on video and will be added to the archive of Weymouth and Melcombe Regis history which has fewer modern details and no recordings.

Marcia Headon, Chair of the Trustees of the Weymouth Museum Trust told Greatest Hits Radio Dorset.

"We were very fortunate to receive a generous grant from Weymouth Town council to help fund this project which will bring so many exciting stories and memories to our collections.

"Our local heritage is so very important and hearing stories from real people who have lived and breathed Weymouth and Melcombe Regis has been a delight."
