A flood alert has been issued for West Dorset rivers and streams.

The Environment Agency, who issued the alert, say river levels have risen in Bridport "as a result of heavy rainfall overnight" which may lead to flooding of low lying areas.

"We expect flooding to potentially affect the Rivers Lim, Char, Winniford, Simene, Brit, Asker, Mangerton and Bride.

"Be prepared."

They've advised avoiding low lying footpaths and any bridges near local watercourses.

Further rainfall is forecast this morning.

The agency say they are monitoring rainfall and river levels and are checking rivers for blockages in the area.

"We will continue to monitor the forecast and re-issue this alert/warning if necessary.
