Investigation launched into property fire in north Dorset village

Crews from Somerset and Devon were called to help tackle the blaze in South Perrott

An investigation has been launched into a fire at a property in a Dorset village.

Crews form Devon and Somerset were needed to help tackle the blaze in South Perrott on Saturday night. (18 June)

Beaminster Fire Station, Maiden Newton Fire Station and two appliances from Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service along with a BA (breathing apparatus) support unit from Dorchester Fire Station, support officers, the police and ambulance service all attended the incident.

There were initial reports of people inside but fire crews have confirmed there was no one in the property.

A spokesperson for Bridport Fire Station said:

"BA teams using hose reel jets and thermal imaging cameras entered the property from the front and rear to extinguish the fire and search for the resident. With the fire extinguished and no persons found a second search of the property was conducted which confirmed no-body was in the property.

"The ambulance service were released from the incident and the police tasked with locating the resident.

"The incident was scaled back to one Dorset pump to monitor for hot spots and to hand the incident over to housing association."
