Final consultation on Portland waste incinerator opens
This is to help decide whether an environmental permit can be granted
The Environment Agency has opened a final consultation on plans for a waste incinerator on Portland.
We're still waiting to hear the outcome of a Public Inquiry held in December - to decide on whether the facility can get planning permission and be allowed to go ahead.
The Environment Agency say they're likely to grant a permit to Powerfuel Portland - unless they receive new information for not allowing it.
The latest consultation wants to hear from anyone with new information regarding:
• Relevant environmental regulatory requirements and technical standards.
• Information on local population and sensitive sites.
• Comments on whether the right process is being used for the activity, for example whether the technology is the right one.
• Pollution control.
• The impact of noise and odour from traffic on site.
• Any permit conditions that may be needed.
The body doesn't look at issues around vehicle movements to and from the site, working hours and whether or not the site is suitable for this kind of work - as that's dealt with during the planning process.
The consultation's open until Sunday 11th August, through an online portal, by emailing pscpublicresponse@environment-agency.gov.uk, or posting a response to Environment Agency Permitting and Support Centre, Land Team, Quadrant 2, 99 Parkway Avenue, Sheffield, S9 4WF.
You're asked to include the application number EPR/AP3304SZ/A001 in any comments.
