Felled tree turned into 'throne' in Dorchester
It was a spur of the moment decision by a tree surgeon.

Tree surgeons have carved a ‘throne’ out of the stump of a tree which had to be felled in Salisbury Field.
The creation has been so successful that it has since appeared in various social media photographs as people pause to pose.
Now a second throne may be created after discovering that a nearby 80-foot Chestnut in the same row of trees is also in poor condition and will need to be felled.
Dorchester town councillors heard from outdoor services manager Carl Dallison that branches and limbs were chipped wherever possible, which will be used as weed suppressant mulch to whip plantings at Kings road where a tree planting scheme is underway.
The town council management committee also heard that a new rose bed has been created in Dorchester’s Borough Gardens using flowers named after Thomas Hardy characters.
The bed is alongside the tennis courts and during January will see two benches and two obelisks added to the area.
Large quantities of manure had to be used during the creation of the beds because the area was sandy, having previously been part of the old bowling green.
Dorchester Town Councillor Fiona Kent-Ledger said it was a spur of the moment decision by a tree surgeon:
“I don’t think it was planned beforehand, I think he was stood next to it at the time and he could look out across the views of Dorchester and thought 'wow, really nice place to have a seat’
“I think it was all dependent on how much of the wood would be useable once they got down to that point but it’s a surprising but nice addition to Salisbury fields.”
