The man behind Weymouth's Fantastic Sausage Factory has had to defend a cheeky sign outside his shop.

'Big Willy', is a 6ft tall giant hotdog sausage who happens to be named Willy. Innocent enough?

But one holiday maker didn't see the joke and thinks the sign is too rude for Weymouth's high street.

Dennis Spurr is the owner of the Fantastic Sausage Factory in St Mary Street.

He told Greatest Hits Radio Dorset:

"I have tried to make people smile.

"I wouldn't think I have offended many people in mi life. I am a cheeky chappie. Anyone who knows me will know what I'm like."

The complaint attracted coverage from a national newspaper, and Dennis says it's been so widely shared it's actually boosted sales.

He said:

"Yesterday, I think we had to go and buy more rolls. We'd just sold out of everything, so whoever that woman is, thank you very much."

He added:

"It's a bit of fun, it must be one of the most photographed things in Weymouth."

The shop sells differently named hotdogs as Dennis explains:

"We've got things you can buy like a Cheezy Willy and a Dirty Willy, you can even have a Little Willy. It's all a bit of fun."

"In this rotten old world - all we're trying to do is make people smile."
