A failed asylum-seeker from Somalia is to go on trial accused of two charges of sexual assault of a teenage woman in Bournemouth.

Abdinasir Elmi, 25, who was living at the Roundhouse Hotel in the Dorset seaside resort, is accused of the offences against one complainant, alleged to have taken place on April 22.

The charges are one count of sexual assault by penetration and the second charge is sexual assault by touching.

The court heard that Elmi's application for asylum had been turned down by the Home Office and he was appealing against the decision.

Judge Charlie Sherrard KC denied an application for bail and remanded him in custody until the trial, to start on February 9 with a pre-trial hearing on January 9.
