Extinction Rebellion deliver Christmas card to Dorset Council

Santa’s got a very special message for the local authority this Christmas

Santa, accompanied by eco-campaigners, has delivered a Christmas card to Dorset Council.

Extinction Rebellion members marched from Dorchester’s town pump down to the council offices at South Walks House to deliver the card.

It’s to recognise the hard work Dorset Council has put in to it’s Climate Action Plan this year.

But, Santa still had a warning for us. Here’s what he (or rather his stand-in local parish councillor Ken Huggins), had to say:

“I’m from Extinction Rebellion North Pole, the reason why I’m down here is I’ve noticed an enormous amount of ice melt and snowmelt in the last few years.

“It’s just worrying me enormously. I’m down here to make sure we get some action.

“We’re getting a lot of talk from the politicians at the moment, but we need action. Words are fine, they’re very cheap but taking action is what’s desperately needed.”

Julie-Ann Booker from XR said:

“This seasonal greeting recognises the Council’s efforts in working towards an action plan to reduce the county’s carbon emissions, prevent wildlife loss and generally improve the health and wellbeing of us all.

"However, the message reminds the Council there are bold decisions to be made that will make or break Dorset’s ability to become a zero carbon, environmentally-friendly county in the necessary timescale.”
