Elderly mobility scooter rider seriously injured after collision with Land Rover

The accident near Gillingham happened yesterday morning

An elderly man riding a mobility scooter has been seriously injured after a collision with a Land Rover near Gillingham.

Police were called to the B3081 near West Bourton just before 11.15 yesterday morning.

The elderly male rider of the mobility scooter was taken to hospital by the ambulance service for treatment to serious injuries.

The Land Rover driver was uninjured.

Road closures were in place to allow emergency services to safely treat the injured man and carry out an examination of the scene.

Investigation launched

Police Sergeant Sarah Jones, of the traffic unit, said: “An investigation is underway to establish what happened and I would ask any witnesses who have not already spoken to police to please come forward.

“I am also keen to hear from any motorists who may have captured anything of relevance on dashcam footage.

“Finally, I would like to thank the public for their patience and understanding while the road closures were in place.”
