Two elderly people have been rescued after being trapped in beach hut at Portland Bill, filled with a lethal gas.

Firefighters from Portland were called out and discovered a severe carbon monoxide leak.

They forced their way into the beach hut and pulled the two casualties to safety.

A spokesperson for Portland Fire Station said:

"On arrival our gas monitors confirmed a severe carbon monoxide leak. Two elderly casualties were immediately pulled out by fire crews after a forced entry as they had taken on a large amount of the gas.

"Oxygen therapy was carried out by both crews until South Western Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust arrived, they are now receiving the care they need and we wish them a healthy and speedy recovery."
