Driver rescued after car overturns in Maiden Newton

A driver has been rescued after their car overturned during an accident in Maiden Newton last night. (30 March)

Firefighters were called by police to the crash on Dorchester Road at around 10.22pm.

Two crews from Dorchester fire station were sent to the scene.

They found only one vehicle was involved in the accident and had left the road.

A spokesperson for Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue said:

"The crews stabilised the vehicle, removed the windscreen using small tools and assisted the driver from the vehicle.

"The casualty was treated by South Western Ambulance Service paramedics."

A spokesman for Dorset Police said:

"It was reported the car involved was on its side and in a hedge.

"Officers attended, along with the fire and ambulance service. Road closures were put in place while emergency services dealt with the incident.

"The fire service assisted with removing he occupant from the vehicle and they were taken to hospital for treatment to a leg injury.

"The vehicle was recovered and officers left the scene at around 11.55pm."
