A driver's alleged to have shouted racist abuse at a pedestrian in Dorchester, after being asked to slow their car down.

Police are investigating a public order incident in Trinity Street at around 4.30pm on Thursday (16th January).

A Mercedes driver was asked to cut his speed, as it was thought he was accelerating towards the victim as he crossed the road with children.

The driver's then believed to have shouted at the victim.

A 41 year old man from East Dorset has been arrested on suspicion of a racially aggravated public order offence and bailed while enquiries continue.

There's now an appeal for witnesses to contact police.

Sergeant Mia Jakeman, of Dorset Police, said:

“This incident happened in a busy area and I am keen to speak to anyone who may have seen what happened.

“In addition, I would like to hear from any motorists who may have captured anything of relevance on dashcam footage.

“I understand a number of members of the public intervened at the time and I would like to thank them for their assistance.”

If you can help with any information, you're asked to call Dorset Police on 101, quoting reference number 55250007461.
