Mary and Joseph are will be coming to the big screen at Weymouth's park and ride this year, to provide a nativity that meets all the COVID guidelines.

A group of churches are putting on a special showing of their pre-recorded nativity play for viewers at Weymouth's park and ride.

Members of the audience will be confined to their cars at the festive drive-through show to meet with COVID-safety standards.

It's been organised by churches together in Weymouth. Cherry Clark helped to organise it.

She said:

"It's going to be such fun. Come dressed up with tinsel and hats and jumpers and we're just going to have a great hour together in our car bubbles of just Christmas cheer of Hope of Joy and celebration.

"It is, and has been, very carefully and safely, within all the guidelines recorded. So it's going to be put together and pre-recorded.

"There's going to be a gigantic screen there a company coming over to project it for a 3 nights running on this big screen so it's a bit like going to the cinema.

Mike and Wendy Petitdemange, who directed and filmed the production, said:

“Filming during COVID-19 restrictions has been quite a challenge but people have put in tremendous effort to help us tell the greatest story ever told”.

Cllr Gill Taylor, Dorset and Weymouth Town Councillor, said:

“This is a fantastic event that has been put together very quickly and will give a well needed lift of spirits to the area. A group of volunteers have been working closely with many partner organisations including Weymouth Town Council.”

“Dorset Council’s Rangers Team were more than happy to help us spread a little Christmas cheer with items that will be included in the activities pack. Dozens of mature maritime pine cones have been collected by their service, with the help volunteers. This will not only create a fun project but if the cones are left they become invasive on our precious heathlands, so we are helping to conserve this rare habitat as well!”

The finished Nativity, complete with carols, will be screened on a giant 10 metre screen in the Weymouth park and ride carpark on December 15th, 16th and 17th. Tickets are ÂŁ5 per car and are available on Eventbrite here.

Entrance will be by pre-booked tickets only. So, get your tickets, decorate the inside of your car and get ready to sing your heart out, all in the safety of your car!
