Train services in Dorset will be severely impacted by strike action taking place on Wednesday 27th July, South Western Railway warns.

The service provider says there will be no trains from any South Western train stations throughout Dorset on Wednesday, and customers are being advised not to travel to avoid disruption.

Approximately 40,000 workers are expected to walk out after talks failed to resolve disputes over pay, job security and conditions.

Mark Lever, Head of Communications at South Western Railway, said the service provider was sorry that customers would find their journeys disrupted.

“We’re really sorry to everyone who’s impacted by these strikes, and unfortunately they mean for most people on our network there are no services at all on Wednesday.”

He explained how South Western Railway services in Dorset will be impacted by strikes.

“For people in Dorset there will be no train services on SWR stations throughout the whole of Wednesday.

The trains that are running upo from Southampton will only be running from 7:30 in the morning to 6:30 in the evening, and they are likely to be very busy.”

Lever said that customers should avoid traveling on Wednesday to avoid severe disruption.

“Our advice to customers across the whole network is to only travel if absolutely necessary, and in the Dorset region there are very few services that people could take anyway.”

Lever also explained that services will also be disrupted the following day.

“The tracks won’t be available to us until after 7am and we’ll have a lot of trains in the wrong place.”

So we’ll have a late start up of our services on Thursday, and customers should check the time of their first trains before they set off.”

Customers who will be impacted by the strikes can find out more information through the South Western Railway website.
