Eligible residents in Dorset are being urged to get their Covid-19 booster jab.

Three more pharmacies in Dorset are offering appointments for booster jabs.

• Highcliffe Pharmacy, Lymington Road, Christchurch

• Beaminster Pharmacy, Hogshill Street, Beaminster

• Boots Pharmacy, Commercial Road, Bournemouth

A clinic offering booster jabs is also being held at the Melcombe Day Unit at Weymouth Hospital and will run from Wednesday to Sunday each week, excluding Saturday's during October.

Patients in cohort 1-9 will be invited (over 50s and vulnerable 16-49yrs), no earlier than 26 weeks after their 2nd jab, starting with the most elderly/clinically extremely vulnerable.

Patients who are eligible will be contacted either via phone call or text to book their appointment when they are due.

You can book your COVID-19 booster vaccine dose if you are eligible:

• people aged 50 and over

• people aged 16 and over with a health condition that puts them at high risk of getting seriously ill from COVID-19

• carers aged 16 and over

• people aged 16 and over who live with someone who is more likely to get infections (such as someone who has HIV, has had a transplant or is having certain treatments for cancer, lupus or rheumatoid arthritis)

• People who are pregnant and in 1 of the eligible groups can also get a booster dose.

How many people have received their Coronavirus jab?

59,109 patients in Weymouth & Portland have received their first vaccine and 55,646 patients have received both vaccines.

Second dose of Pfizer vaccine's are also being offered.

If you would like to book an appointment and had your first dose more than eight weeks ago, you can also book into the clinic.

Locally, patients in the following groups are currently eligible to receive their primary vaccinations at our Weymouth Hospital site:

  • Individuals aged 12 years or above at higher risk of severe COVID-19 infection
  • Individuals aged over 12 years who are contacts of immunosuppressed individuals
  • All those 16 years of age and over
  • Clinically extremely vulnerable individuals
  • All individuals aged 16 years to 64 years with underlying health conditions which puts them at higher risk (including all those on the learning disability register and household contacts of immunosuppressed patients)

Just like it has been since the Covid-19 vaccine roll our began, eligible patients will be invited to attend when it is their turn, usually via a link in a text message or a telephone call from your GP surgery or our central covid admin team.

If you are in one of the above groups and have not yet been contacted then please phone your usual GP surgery as they will be able to book your appointment for you.

Become a vaccinator

Dorset CCG are looking for vaccinators to help with the booster roll out and administering Covid-19 jabs to 12 to 15 year olds.

If you are a qualified, currently registered health care professional e.g. Nurse/pharmacist/paramedic or other specialist who can help with these vaccination programmes, the Dorset CCG would like to hear from you.

Ideally they are looking for those who can commit to a number of hours that can be worked flexibly, supporting the programmes over the autumn/winter months, in a variety of different settings across the county.

You can apply for the role on the Dorset CCG website here.
