Dorset Police says it's taking reports of spiking in Weymouth very seriously.

Officers have been speaking to pupils at Weymouth College as part of a week raising awareness for the issue.

They are encouraging pupils there to stick together in groups while out at night, and cover glasses and bottles where possible.

PCSO Matt Barton spoke to pupils this week. He said:

"There is drink spikeys and cup coverings that we would recommend. Just make sure you're not alone and don't accept any drinks from strangers and people you don't know.

"Anyone who would be caught spiking would face the full weight of the law. We just want to keep people safe, they shouldn't have to use drink spikeys but if it helps them and reassures them they're going to be safe on a night out, then I think that's only a positive."

The Police are working hard with door staff, pubs and clubs and street pastors to tackle spiking.

Matt Barton added:

"Weymouth and Portland is very safe, it's great for a night out, Dorset Police and our partners are all working hard to make sure Weymouth remains a safe place on a night out.

"If you think you have been spiked, speak to a member of staff, get yourself a kit, make sure your friends are aware. Also if you've gone home and you've suddenly felt the effects, try to get yourself into hospital for a test.

"We take every case extremely seriously, and we will be there to support you."
