Dorset Police say enforcement of the 6 rule will be a 'last resort'
The force says it's hoping to encourage people to act responsibly.
Dorset Police say they will only use enforcement as a last resort when policing the new restrictions on social gatherings.
From Monday, no more than 6 people can meet at any one time - indoors and outside - in England.
The government says it will back local councils which use powers to force businesses to shut if they break new rules.
Dorset Police have told Greatest Hits Radio that everyone has a role to play on limiting the outbreak of Coronavirus by following the restrictions, including those on gatherings.
In a statement a spokesperson said:
"Officers will continue to be out in communities - engaging, explaining and encouraging people to act responsibly.
"We will take enforcement action where necessary, but only as a last resort."
