Dorset's ParentLine text service can now help older children
The service is open for advice for kids ages 5 to 19
A confidential text messaging service for parents and carers in Dorset to get health advice is being expanded to include older children.
ParentLine's been running for families with under fives for just over a year, but is now also available for 5 to 19 year olds.
It's run by Dorset HealthCare's School Nursing Team and can offer tips and guidance about children and young people to those looking after them.
Advice can range from sleep, development, behaviour and toileting, to healthy eating, mental health, bullying and exam stress.
One parent who's used the service, Annalies from Upton, said:
“I feel texting is easier than a phone call as my eldest child normally interrupts phone calls and I find it hard to concentrate. With a text, I can write it and send it, then give attention to my child.”
Juliet Singleton, from the Trust’s Children and Young People’s Service, said:
“It’s fantastic news for parents and carers that we have expanded our ParentLine service to cover the 5-19 age group across the county. We want to encourage anyone who needs support to text us so we can help them and provide the right advice in an easy, accessible way.”
Parents and carers can text 07312 263131 and a member of the team will respond.
It's open 9.00am to 4.00pm, Monday to Friday (excluding weekends, bank holidays and school holidays).
Texts sent outside those hours will receive an automated message with advice on where to get help if you need it urgently.
