Dorset Council to contact housing customers by text message

The authority's got a new way to communicate with residents

A text messaging service has been set up by Dorset Council, as another way for the authority to contact its housing customers.

The Council say they'll be sent out to alert residents of important updates, encouraging them to log on to the portal.

That update could be a suitable property becoming available, an application change, request for proof of ID or an answered query.

Dorset Council say they'll also be able to call or email residents, with the texts just an extra way to get in touch.

They're also telling us about the scheme, so we know it's not a scam.

We won't be able to reply to the texts, which will come from Dorset Homechoice and will include a resident's name.

The Council will never ask for any personal details, especially bank details.

Councillor Graham Carr-Jones, portfolio holder for Housing and Community Safety, said:

“This will be a really good way to keep up to date with your account and act quickly when there is a message.

“Just remember the message will only direct you to your account on the housing portal where all the information and any actions which need attention will be.”

All new applicants to Dorset's housing service will be asked for permission to contact them via text message.

Existing customers will need to update their preference in their account to receive the messages.
