Covid-19 cases continue to rise in Dorset

Numbers are much higher in younger age groups

Public Health Dorset figures show Coronavirus infection rates are continuing to rise in the county, just like national cases.

Data shows they are much higher in younger age groups, compared to those that are older.

The case rate for Dorset Council is 69.2, which is below both the England and South West average.

Yet, the case rate for Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole is 147.7, that's above the South West average of 129 but below the England average.

Public Health Dorset expected the rise.

Following Step 3 of the Government's Roadmap, social mixing has increased giving the virus more chances to spread.

Data also shows that the Delta variant, which is the UK's most dominant strain, is more transmissible.

VACCINE SUCCESS

Over 1 million doses of the vaccine have now been given in Dorset.

Since the vaccine rollout there has been a significant weakening of the link between an increase in cases and the number of people becoming seriously unwell and requiring hospital treatment.
