Dorset school children celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in inspiring style
They even had 'Brian May' perform from their roof!
Children at the Prince of Wales School in Dorchester celebrated Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in inspiring style this week (Friday 27th May).
The school children at the Dorset school were treated to a guest roof-top performance from a Brian May tribute act (Year 2 Class Teacher - Mr Duncan MacBean) alongside a traditional street party, non-school uniform day and a very special jubilee lunch.
Throughout the day itself there were many surprises including finding on arrival their Headteacher, Mr Gary Spracklen, dressed as Geri Horner (née Halliwell) - Ginger Spice, complete with iconic Union Jack Dress, full makeup and heels.
Other highlights of the day included the official opening of an #InspiredToLearn Art Gallery depicting 161 portraits (one drawn by every pupil at the school) of Her Majesty The Queen.
The gallery reflects the seven decades of Her Majesty’s reign and includes a range of mediums from pencil drawings to digital art.
Other art elements included a giant Union Jack art installation. This was unveiled with the whole-school singing ‘God Save The Queen’ while a drone flew overhead capturing the special moment.
As the day drew to a close, a special cake was shared with every child. The day was made complete with a visit from Her Majesty The Queen’s cardboard cut-out double, complete with “real-life” Beefeater (Office Admin Officer - Mr Tom Edmonds).
Both arrived on the red carpet via a real-life London Taxi, much to the excitement of all those watching and waving their union jack flags.
Speaking about the day, Deputy Headteacher Mrs Corinne March said:
“We are all about making memories and inspiring learning here at The Prince of Wales School. Today is another example of what can happen when an amazing team of people work together - it’s magical and represents everything that is good about our very special school."
Year four pupil Alfie said:
“It was the best day ever. It’s going to be difficult for Buckingham Palace to top what’s happened here at The Prince of Wales School today."
Charlotte, another year four pupil added:
“Yes, it’s been amazing. I can’t believe we had an electric guitarist playing ‘God Save The Queen’ on top of our school roof. I am never going to forget this."
