Dorset climate group calls on local MPs to do more for the environment

The county's Climate Action Network has written an open letter

A Dorset climate group is calling on local Tory MPs to 'be more conservative' about the local environment.

The Climate Action Network here (DorsetCAN) has written an open letter to politicians, asking them to help keep regulations and controls in place to protect the countryside and wildlife.

In the letter, DorsetCAN say there are three areas which need to be urgently looked at:

  • The Retained EU Law Bill - which the organisation believes will 'water down or scrap essential environmental protections'
  • Investment Zones - calls for them to be stopped due to concerns that it would 'unnecessarily sweep away planning and environmental controls that are designed to protect'
  • Environmental Land Management Scheme - the group thinks this should be kept in place, as it 'rewards landowners and farmers for vital environmental work' and is needed to 'move ahead fast to regenerate our countryside'

DorsetCAN claims the measures to protect environmental assets are 'not political issues, but practical and moral ones'.

They've ended their letter by saying:

"Dorset may be a small county but what is being proposed has the potential to do untold damage that will last for generations. Please honour your promise to protect the county that we all love."
