Dorset campaigners call for weekly climate address

The eco-campaigners want Boris Johnson to keep the nation up to date on the climate crisis.

A Dorset environmental group is calling on the Prime Minister to start addressing the public on a regular basis again.

But they want him the move on to a new existential crisis: the climate.

The Word Forest Organisation say the past 18 months have proven the government's ability to quickly pivot and adapt to rapidly changing information.

They say the increasingly shocking scenes from extreme weather events like last week's flash flooding in New York should prompt the government to communicate with the public more.

Tracey West is the CEO. She said:

“The climate crisis is wreaking havoc across our planet. All countries, bodies of water, humans and wildlife are interdependent upon the wellbeing of each other. With increased frequency and ferocity, they continue to be gripped by extreme weather events and the related chaotic fallout: examples include extreme rainfall or glacier melt leading to flooding and landslides.

"The UK Government must now show leadership and take action today."

Just as Boris Johnson and other MPs were backed up by scientists like Chris Whitty and Jonathan Van-Tam, The Word Forest want climate scientists to feature as part of the address.

The reforestation charity suggests the opportunity could be used to demonstrate how to get the nation to Net Zero more expediently, whilst also dealing with any problems they say the UK might face in the meantime: drought, interruptions to the food supply chain, forthcoming extreme weather etc.
