A new and free training programme that will help Dorset businesses gain a competitive edge in today’s digital world has just been launched.

The Digital Leadership training programme has been made possible thanks to £80,000 Shared Prosperity Funding (SPF) from Dorset Council.

In total, the council has secured £4.4m SPF funds from the government to support a wide range of initiatives aimed at growing the local economy, supporting businesses and increasing skills.

Investing in digital leadership training for local businesses will not only give individual companies a boost but will help fill an identified skills gap that is essential if Dorset’s economy is to grow.

Dorset Council’s Cabinet member for Property & Assets and Economic Growth, Cllr Richard Biggs, said: “This is great news for Dorset businesses and the economy, and I am delighted that we can offer them this training.

“Digital plays an ever-increasing role in all our lives and businesses are often at the forefront of implementing new technology as it happens.

“For businesses to retain an advantage over their competitors it is essential they are not left behind in this digital world and stay one step ahead of latest developments. This course will help them to do just that.”

Running from September to early 2025, the digital leadership programme will be delivered by social enterprise training provider Cosmic.

The training will be online and aims to help businesses craft a future-proof strategy with cutting-edge digital tools.

It will also help them to enhance productivity using digital platforms, foster a culture of experimentation and innovation, learn more about AI, delve into data decision-making and assist with horizon scanning for future opportunities.

This programme is aimed at CEOs, directors, managers, and digital champions across all industries.

Business leaders can choose from a more in-depth course run over 30 hours in total or a shorter three half-day course held over three weeks. The programme also includes one-to-one mentoring.

Lindsay Lucas, Head of Training and Consultancy (Deputy CEO) at Cosmic said: “We are excited to partner with Dorset Council to deliver our Digital Leadership training programme. This initiative empowers leaders with the skills and strategies needed to drive digital transformation and innovation within their organisations.”
