Dorset beauty spots braced for three-day mini heatwave
There's a reminder to keep the county safe from wild fires and free of litter
The next three days are anticipated to be the hottest so far this year as a mini heatwave hits the South West.
It comes just as lockdown restrictions start to ease and we’re allowed to gather as two households outside, or in groups of up to six people.
It also comes just before children break up for the Easter holidays, but sadly the heat’s not predicted to stay around long enough for Easter Weekend.
The ‘Stay at Home’ rule set out by the government has now changed to ‘Stay Local’ meaning more of us could be heading to the beach to make the most of the warm sunshine.
But, local beauty spots are urging us to act responsibly by sticking to social distancing while we’re outside, picking up our litter and avoiding lighting up BBQ’s in high risk areas.
One of those areas is Durdle Door.
Maddy Pfaff is the head ranger for the Lulworth Estate. She said:
“We’ve done loads of preparation over the winter and yes people can once again enjoy meeting up in a group of six, or with two households so we are expecting a few more visitors.
“The message is to stay local at this point, but people will come no doubt.
“Social distance, please, you still need to be two meters apart.
She added that many parts of the area are special areas of conservation.
“We would really like people to be mindful about fire risk. It is long grass, that grass can catch fire in the summer very, very easily so; BBQs, open stoves, fires on the beach or on the cliffs, please don’t do it.”
