Work is beginning on Dorchester West Train station to make it's northbound platform accessible to people with disabilities.

Until now it has only been accessible via paved steps that lead up to the platform with no slope.

But West Dorset MP Chris Loder say's he's put the pressure on to bring the station up to standards.

Now it's getting a step free ramp which will allow those who can't access it the ability to travel to Yeovil, Bath and beyond.

Chris said:

"Finally seeing this work beginning is a huge relief. Disabled access to the northbound platform has been an issue for many years now.

"It's disgraceful that disabled passengers are currently unable to access the platform and I have been campaigning to get a ramp installed."

Network Rail said: "Network Rail has started constructing a pedestrian access ramp to Dorchester West station on Williams Avenue which will provide passengers with improved access for passengers with mobility issues, pushchairs and those with luggage to the street and Dorset County hospital. We expect the project to be completed in July."
