Dorchester shop windows smashed and broken into on Halloween

Two people have been arrested following an alleged burglary and criminal damage to shop windows in Dorchester.

Dorset Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

At around 1.10am on Sunday 31 October 2021 it is reported that a number of shops had their windows smashed in South Street and Hardy Arcade.

The shops include JoJo Maman Bébé, Robert Dyas, ProCook, WHSmith, Amplifon Hearing Centre, Specsavers and Wise Owl Toys.

It was further reported during the incident at Specsavers that entry was gained to the shop and a fire extinguisher was stolen.

At around 2.55am on Sunday 31 October 2021 it was reported that Central Convenience Store and Spar in Maud Road had their windows and doors smashed.

Officers attended and a 24-year-old man from the Dorchester area and a 24-year-old Weymouth man were arrested on suspicion of criminal damage. The man from Weymouth was also arrested on suspicion of burglary. They have both been released on police bail while enquiries continue.

Investigations Officer Florence Winstanley, of Weymouth CID, said: “A full investigation is underway and officers have been carrying out enquiries, including checking CCTV in the vicinity.

“I am appealing to anyone who was in the town centre during the early hours of Sunday 31 October 2021 and witnessed what happened to please come forward.”
