Ruby leapt to action when her owner passed out in a ditch

When Pete Bradley and Debs Ackers rehomed Ruby the German Shephard cross Labrador to their home in Wareham, they had no idea how important she would come to be.
But when Pete fainted whilst out on a walk and fell into a ditch, Ruby stood by her owner and barked to get attention.
Paramedics reckon Pete’s blood pressure had dropped causing him to pass out.
“I woke up and everything was getting full of water,” explained Pete, who is retired, adding: “My boots were full of water, and I was getting cold. I couldn’t get out, but Ruby stayed there all the time.”
Ruby barked repeatedly and eventually another dog walking couple arrived to help pull Pete from his predicament, using a strong branch.
Once home, Pete’s neighbour called the paramedics and they found Ruby laying across the bed where Pete was recovering and remained at her owners side whilst they worked.
Ruby had only been with Pete and Debs for a few weeks before the medical emergency, but she had already settled in with the couple.
“She’s been brilliant,” said Debs, “The first night we had her, she just laid on the sofa next to us.”
“We just clicked,” added Pete.
Pete has since made a good recovery from his illness, saying he is “absolutely fine” now and Ruby doesn’t leave his or Debs’ side.
