Two derelict buildings are to be demolished following a major fire in Weymouth.

It's believed the blaze at the buildings next to the Rembrandt Hotel on Dorchester Road was started deliberately.

Dorset Police arrested two teenage girls in connection with the fire.

The girls aged 14 and 15 were detained on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life.

They have now been released under investigation while enquiries continue.

Hannah Stokes from South Coast Demolition said:

"The buildings can't stay up. It's too unsafe if anyone was to go in site now. Obviously we've got the worst of it down but it still needs to be completely demolished."

It's thought the demolition could take as long as three weeks but we are being urged to stay away.

Hannah added:

"We've had emails from random people asking if we're knocking the building down and we've had people go in to site and see what's going on obviously where it's been on the news. Everybody wants to go and see it.

"We would advise people not to come to site as it's too dangerous and we need to just get on with our work and get the building down safely."
