The deadline to have your say on a 760 home development for Bridport has been extended.

Residents now have until 17th January to put in their comments on a 350-page planning application.

The application, which deals with the housing and highways aspects of the development, was submitted by the developers in December 2021.

Town councillors want local people and groups to be able to understand the application and respond, and have published their initial thoughts on the application in the form of a summary video and draft planning comments.

Council Leader Cllr Dave Rickard said:

"We as a town council realised our job now was to get the very best development possible. By that, it meant addressing two or three of the very key issues.

"One, is that what we need in Dorset is more affordable housing, not only to buy but to rent, but also that the development should integrate with the current urban area of Bridport.

"But also, very strongly on the environment side, and we felt if we were going to have this development on our doorstep integrated in the town, it should be an exemplar development. In other words, take the very best of modern, up to date, environmental and design planning."

Bridport Town Council is urging people to make sure they have their say on the project.

They have put together documents and a video to help explain what this stage of the planning process means.

Cllr Rickard said:

“The outline permission granted in 2019 means that the development will now go ahead, so regardless of whether one feels it is the right development in the right place or not, we all now need to focus on getting the best possible development for Bridport. We want Foundry Lea to be an exemplar in design and environmental standards, and a good ‘fit’ with the town.”
