Dorset Coronavirus case rates rise while hospital admissions remain low

The latest data by Public Health Dorset has been issue

Cases of Covid-19 have risen quickly in both Dorset and Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole councils over the Past week but the number of patients in hospital is low.

It is also rising across the South West region but case rates in BCP Council area have more than tripled while Dorset's is almost triple last week's.

The numbers are being monitored but Public Health Dorset, who are expecting the link between cases and hospitalisations to be weakened due to the vaccine rollout.

At the moment case rates are highest amongst younger, largely unvaccinated age groups.

DELTA VARIANT MORE DOMINANT

Data shows that the Delta variant is more transmissable than previous variants, and it is quickly becoming the dominant strain of COVID-19 in the United Kingdom.

In line with this, we have seen an increase in Delta variant cases locally over the last few weeks.

BCP: 228 (compared to 74 in last update on 11th June)

Dorset: 106 (compared to 42 in last update on 11th June)

Current COVID-19 patients in hospital beds in Dorset: 3 (compared to 1 in last update on 11 June)

Vaccinations in Dorset: Up to 13th June, 959,163 doses had been administered to people in Dorset.
