Covid-19 case rates in Dorset 'highest they have ever been'
Public Health Dorset say Covid-19 related absences are starting to impact on local services
Last updated 31st Dec 2021
Covid-19 infection rates in Dorset are the highest they have ever been and are continuing to rise.
Public Health Dorset say we are starting to see the impact of an increasing number of staff absences putting a strain on local services.
They also say the number of Covid-19 patients in Dorset hospitals is falling but it's unclear if this will continue due to rising case rates.
The situation is being monitored closely.
In the latest statement on their website Public Health Dorset say:
"Anything we can do to reduce transmission will help ease pressure on local services, so continue to wear a face covering, get plenty of fresh air and take a lateral flow test before meeting other people.
"The best way to protect yourself against serious illness is to get vaccinated. There are plenty of opportunities available in Dorset as the the vaccination programme continues to expand, so if you haven’t had your first, second or booster dose yet, please take up the offer
"Vaccination alone will not stop the spread of the virus, we also need to continue with public health measures. Test regularly, particularly before gatherings or meeting others. Get plenty of fresh air when you're meeting others, by meeting outdoors or opening doors and windows. Wear a face covering in indoor or crowded spaces.
Advice for New Year's Eve
There are no restrictions in place in England to stop us mixing tonight for New Year's Eve, but Public Health Dorset have issued a warning.
On their website they say:
"As we celebrate the New Year, consider the risks as with high infection rates you are much more likely to catch COVID-19. Avoid mixing unnecessarily, as this could mean having to miss the things that are most important to you.
"If you have any symptoms of COVID-19, self-isolate immediately and arrange a PCR test."
