A community memorial service to pay respects to Her Majesty The Queen is being planned for Weymouth.

The Town Council's arranging the event at 11.00am on Saturday 17th September at Greenhill Gardens.

It's a chance for 'people to come together and remember Queen Elizabeth II'.

The service will be led by the Mayor of Weymouth's chaplain Brian Ellis.

Cllr Ann Weaving, Mayor of Weymouth, said:

“The Queen was the longest-reigning monarch in British history, and since learning of the incredibly sad news about Her Majesty’s death, Weymouth Town Council wanted to do something to bring communities together to remember her.

“A short service is being held at Greenhill Gardens which is home to the Queen Elizabeth II arch, which opened in 2019. It is also where Weymouth Town Council has set aside an area for people to lay flowers in tribute to our late Queen.”

Flowers can also be laid in Greenhill Gardens in Her Majesty's memory.

Anyone doing so is asked to please remove any wrapping, with no non-compostable materials, as there are plans to compost the flowers and use that in the planting of a commemorative tree.
