Man rescued after getting stuck on Seatown cliff-face

The incident happened on Friday afternoon.

The man climbed approximately 35 meters up the cliff face after becoming trapped by the tide.

He became further trapped by the thick undergrowth on the side of the cliff.

West Bay and Lyme Regis coastguard and the Lyme Regis RNLI Lifeboat were launched to assist with the rescue.

A spokesperson from the West Bay Coastguard team said after locating the casualty, the teams realised a rope rescue wasn't suitable:

"Coastguard Helicopter 175 which was in the area training was tasked to assist and arrived on scene shortly after.

"The casualty was winched from his location by the Winchman/Paramedic and dropped off to the waiting Coastguard officers on the cliff top.

"After a medical assessment, he was escorted off the cliffs and back to his waiting car at Seatown.

"The casualty was suitably equipped with appropriate clothing, water and the ability to call for help, but in this instance was caught out by the high spring tides."

West Bay Coastguard are reminding us to always do the following when out walking on the coast:

Review the tide times.

Make sure we're properly equipped for walking.

Carry a fully charged mobile phone.

Tell someone where you are going and what time you are expected to return.
