A major rescue operation was launched yesterday afternoon (27 December) to help a number of people stuck on a cliff face near Charmouth.

One of the casualties was trapped in a mud flow.

Coastguard Rescue Teams worked with the ambulance service, Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue and the RNLI.

A spokesman for West Bay Coastguard Rescue Team said:

"In a complex rescue operation involving all of the services working closely together, all of the casualties were safely extracted from their locations and returned to Charmouth.

"They were then passed into the care of the Ambulance Service for onward assessment and care.

"We want to thank members of the public and local residents for their patience whilst the rescue operation was being carried out, which involved numerous landings by our Coastguard helicopter."

If you find yourself in difficulty or if you are concerned for others do not hesitate to dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
