Christmas Scout Post in Dorchester cancelled this year
It's been running for more than 30 years.
After more than 30 years Dorchester and West Dorset’s annual Scout Post will not be delivering cards throughout the area this Christmas.
The annual operation where adult volunteers collect, sort and deliver Christmas cards in and around Dorchester and West Dorset, has become the latest victim of the Covid19 pandemic.
Each year the collections raise enough money to support local Scouting groups including Beavers, Cubs and Scouts, reducing the need for those groups to spend their time fund-raising or call on parents and carers for financial help.
A spokesperson for the organising committee Dorchester & West Dorset Scout Council said:
“After much debate the District organising team have taken the decision to cancel Scout Post for this year.
“The safety of all our amazing adult volunteers is paramount and with a rising level of Covid19 infection this would be an additional and unnecessary risk.”
The group say it hopes to be back again next year.
This year would have been the 33rd year that the voluntary scheme has been in operation.
