AFC Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola said his squad was "not where we want to be" before tonight's opening Premier League match of the season at champions Liverpool.

The Cherries have sold eight players during the summer - including key defenders Dean Huijsen, Milos Kerkez and Illia Zabarnyi for a combined ÂŁ147million - while four have arrived in permanent deals.

Spaniard Iraola, who guided Bournemouth to their highest-placed finish of ninth last season, told a press conference: "We are not where we want to be, but there have been a lot of changes and when the transfer market ends there will have been some important movements.

"I hope we can adjust and do it quickly so that we can focus for the beginning of the season."

Iraola is undecided whether latest recruit Bafode Diakite, signed from Lille on Wednesday for ÂŁ34.6m, will feature at Liverpool. "If not tomorrow then next week," the Spaniard said.

The Cherries face Wolves in their opening home game a week on Saturday, while two summer signings, goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic and left back Adrien Truffert, could make their debuts at Anfield.

Iraola added: "We are (playing in) the first game and a lot of people will be watching us, it will be a big game. It's going to be a good test for us and a place where we can see where we are at."
