The Cerne Abbas Giant was seen sporting a mask yesterday, but not on his face.

A photo's emerged showing the famous Dorset landmark wearing a blue mask as a mankini.

It was accompanied with the words "Wear Mask, Save Live".

There's speculation that the stunt is related to the release of the new Borat film from Sacha Baron Cohen, as some of the films publicity uses the same phrase: "Wear mask, Save live".

But the National Trust who look after the historic site are not impressed.

A spokesperson from the National Trust said:

"We do not encourage the defacing of the Cerne Abbas Giant as any such action may damage this fragile site; whether by someone physically attaching something to him or giving the impression of having done so, as this may encourage others.

"The giant is protected as both a Scheduled Ancient Monument and as part of a Site of Special Scientific Interest because of its important chalk grassland which supports wild flowers, butterflies and other wildlife."
