The entrance to Weymouth Swimming Pool has a new CCTV camera.

It's been moved there by police after a rise in anti-social behaviour in the area, including at the Marsh Play Park.

The new camera is just one of a number of measures that are being used to discourage crime and disorder there, although there are no details on what those other actions will be.

The camera has been moved from elsewhere in the town.

Neighbourhood Inspector David Parr, of Weymouth and Portland Police, said:

“We have a number of CCTV cameras that can fairly easily be relocated to different locations in the town to address current demand and hotspot areas. In addition to this there are a number of fixed cameras.

“Cameras are often moved and a decision was made recently at a meeting of the local Partnership Co-ordinating Group (PCG), which sees agencies working together to address issues in the town, to relocate a camera to the Weymouth Swimming Pool site.

“There has been an increase in anti-social behaviour in the vicinity and working together the PCG has identified a number of actions for partners to take in response.

“The camera is just one of these actions and will offer a visible deterrent and support investigations into crime and disorder.

“We will continue to work with partners through the PCG to address issues in relation to crime and anti-social behaviour that emerge in the town and take action where appropriate.”
