Car severely damaged in suspected Weymouth arson

A fire involving a car at Weymouth's former council offices is thought to have been started deliberately.

Fire crews and police were called to North Quay at around 12.40am today (Tuesday 28th June), and found a black Audi having been severely damaged by the blaze.

There's also been damaged caused to the surface of the car park.

Following initial investigations by Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue, Dorset Police are now treating the incident as a suspected arson.

PC Joseph Garrard, of Weymouth Police, said:

“We are carrying out enquiries into this incident and I would appeal to anyone with information that might assist our enquiries to please contact us.

“I would like to hear from anyone who witnessed any suspicious activity in the area of North Quay during the early hours of Tuesday 28 June 2022, or anyone who may have captured anything of relevance on dashcam footage, home CCTV systems or doorbell cameras. In particular, I would urge anyone who has captured any suspicious vehicle movements in the area of the car park to please get in touch.”
